Dorothy Johnson enjoyed her 30 years as a hairdresser. For 15 years she owned her own shop in Festus. Today she enjoys the slower pace of her retired life with her pup Baby Boy, her friends, family, and her collection of glass pieces. She is grateful for her family who help her. She is also thankful for her DRA aides. “They are so good to me. They don’t just sit. They shop and keep my place clean.”
For many years, DRA has helped Dorothy submit her property tax credit forms and provided her in-home help. A few years ago, she tried another aide service. “That was the sorriest thing I ever did,“ she said. “Now when I call, DRA listens to me and helps me,” Dorothy said. Her aides even noticed that she needed a wheelchair and requested one from DRA’s equipment loan closet for her. Staff also helped her fix issues with her Medicaid Spenddown. “It’s all those extra things that let me know DRA really cares.”
